9128 Series heavy duty
tool changer con昀椀gured
for robotic welding
As co-founder and long-time CEO of ATI
Industrial Automation, I’ve seen 昀椀rsthand the
evolution of automation, and I’d like to share
what truly set ATI’s robotic tool changers
apart.
In the 1990s, when we introduced ATI’s tool
changers to the market, adoption was slow.
Customers were skeptical. There were already
solutions out there – many of which were
unreliable – but customers had adapted to
them. They’d learned how to repair them and
modify their processes around their
weaknesses.
Our breakthrough was simple but
uncommon: we engineered the tool
changer to work flawlessly from
the start. That meant designing for
maximum durability, reliability,
and ease of use.

That was backwards. Robots are supposed to
make manufacturing better – not force you to
compromise your process.
We weren’t interested in building a recurring
business on spare parts. We wanted our
customers to succeed for the lifetime of their
robot cell – 昀椀ve, ten, even twenty years –
without failures.
To do that, we used premium materials,
developed extensive internal testing systems,
and collaborated closely with customers to
re昀椀ne every detail.
Even today, our newest 9128
Series tool changers go through
years of development and
customer beta testing before
full release. No shortcuts.
